Aerinyes with Flesh-whip

This was a really challenging piece that I really enjoyed working on. I wanted to take a powerful heroic character and combine it with some mystical elements inspired by a mythical creature.

It was one of the first times I really tried to use a multitude of source materials to create a new collage image, i often times will use a lot of source materials that are from a single comic for reasons such as , the aging of the materials, and color and style. I also really wanted to explore the three dimensional space with a traditional two dimensional style but I wanted to avoid just making a paper sculpture. I wanted to create a hybrid of sorts. The end result is a visually exciting images that is somewhat two dimensional and inhabits a three dimensional space as well as interacting with the negative space around the piece using shadows and light as its lifted off the page.
